It’s that lovely time of year when, if the weather’s good, you should burst outdoors with your camera and get snapping!

Woodland springs into colour.

Woodland springs into colour.

My latest mini ramble took me from Street Bridge near Scorton up the valley to Dolphinholme.

I always find that bluebells (unless it’s just my photography) usually look better on location to how they do in a photo, especially if dappled sunlight, whilst good for showing colour tends to add too much contrast and makes the ground look ‘cluttered and busy’. Not sure if that makes sense. Perhaps I can illustrate it better in my second photo of a similar nearby pleasant woodland scene with bluebells, without the dappled sun. Ironically in this one I slightly increased saturation and contrast and hey presto, the bluebells seem to stand out more clearly. I also opted to use a slightly longer lens to ‘compact‘ the colour.

Dandelions on mass.!

Dandelions on mass!

Near the start of my walk I went from blue to yellow crossing this dandelion filled field. I chose a very low angle and used a tuft of grass in the foreground to add depth and added interest.

Wyre Way

The River Wyre near Dolphinholme.

The bending river and attractive bridge, as well as the hill backdrop, river reflection and yellow gorse are all good ingredients for a pleasant landscape photo that illustrates the tranquil River Wyre.

Lower Dolphinholme.

Lower Dolphinholme.

The isolated village of Lower Dolphinholme with it’s converted mill, neat rows of houses and bridge is a sleepy little place that cries out to be photographed. Avoiding street signs and parked cars is always a priority for me. I lowered my viewpoint slightly to partly hide the one car slightly spoiling my shot.

I hope you have enjoyed my latest Photographer’s Rambling. Not long back from a favourite haunt of mine, I feel that the Isle Of Man may be my next subject matter. Watch this space and happy snapping and strolling!
